Rabbi David Lipper, Senior Rabbi
Rabbi David Lipper grew up in Houston, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas – Austin and a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion. Rabbi Lipper also holds a Doctorate of Divinity from Hebrew Union College. He holds certificates in Clinical Pastoral Education from MD Anderson Hospital, Transitional Ministry from the Interim Ministry Network, and Non-Profit Leadership from Rice University.
Rabbi Lipper has served as a settled rabbi at Temple Israel in Akron, Ohio; Temple Emanuel in McAllen, Texas; and Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has also served for the past 12 years as an intentional interim rabbi at Temple Sholom in Santa Ana, CA; Temple Kol Tikvah in Davidson, NC; Temple B’nai Torah in Bellevue, WA; Temple B’nai Chaim in Georgetown, CT; Temple B’nai Israel in Little Rock, AR; and Temple Chai in San Antonio, TX.
Not only is Rabbi Lipper a prolific reader, but he has also authored multiple publications including Living Mitzvot, a guide for Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation, and Who Knows the One?, a comparative analysis of Greek philosophy and Jewish mysticism. He also co-authored a monograph on the philosophy of Rabbi Moshe Hayim Luzzatto that was published in the Journal of Progressive Judaism.
Rabbi Lipper is married to his wife Dora and has four children: Benjamin and his wife Jillian, Miryam, and Dena Jo, as well as his precious granddaughter Hazel and his dog Astro.
